Valencia face Castellon at the Antonio Puchades today in their first pre-season match ahead of the forthcoming season. Valencia will be hoping to start on a good note in preparations for a long season where they will be expected to match last season's finish or even surpass it and qualify for Europe.
Ruben Baraja has just over 13 first team players available for selection and the numbers completed by a host of academy players most notably the likes of Ali Fadal, Martin Tejon, David Otorbi and Vincent Abril.
Absentees are Mamardashvili (extended break), Samu Castillejo (extended break), Fran Pérez, Jose Luis Gaya, Jaume Domenech and Mouctar Diakhaby are out due to injury. Diego Lopez, Cristhian Mosquera and Yarek Gasiorowski have international duties.
Baraja also has at his command new signings in Dimitrievski and Rafa Mir. Dimitrievski arrives on a free transfer from Rayo Vallecano in preparations for Mamardashvili's possible departure and long time target and former academy player Mir joins on loan from Sevilla with a 5 million option. Notable departures include Eray Cömert (loan to Real Valladolid) and Pablo Gozalbez (transferred to Arouca).
