UEFA Nations League: Albania's disappointing performance

Actualizado: 13 oct

It's their second loss in a row in this new Nations League season. Albania had to accept a 2-0 defeat against the Czech Republic last night, in a game mostly dominated by the home team.

Sylvinho's team got off to a poor start, conceding a goal in just the 3rd minute from Tomas Chory. Chory wasn't done, as he netted a second goal in the 63rd minute, assisted by Coufal.

Looking back, it was a well-deserved win for the Czech Republic. Albania was too passive in challenges, applying little pressure on their opponents and completely switching off in the opening minutes. Desperate long balls were played to Daku, who had little chance against multiple defenders. The absence of captain Berat Gjimshiti was strongly felt, especially in defense, where the lack of leadership and effort was evident.

It was an unexpectedly poor performance from Albania, particularly after beginning their Nations League campaign with a strong 2-1 win against Ukraine. Compared to their showings in the Euros, this was a bitter night for the traveling fans.

This defeat can be considered one of Albania’s poorest performances under Sylvinho.

On October 14th, Albania faces another big challenge against Georgia, who won their previous meeting in Albania 1-0. The Czech Republic will also play Ukraine on the same day, after winning the first game 3-2.
