SCHALKE Matchday 28: vs. SSV ULM

Schalke are back at home in the VELTINS-Arena to face Ulm.

This will be the first trip to the VELTINS-Arena for the newly promoted side since the DFB- Pokal match in the 1999/2000 season.

Ulm who are at the bottom of the table are in a relegation fight with Braunschweig for at least the playoff spot with Ulm one point behind them to get into that relegation playoff game.


The match starts and it is the visitors that have control of the match.

In the 6th minute it is Ulm already with a chance at goal, and a seemingly easy save is bobbles by Schalke keeper Heekeren, who is now back between the post for the injured Karius. What should have been a easy save Heekeren the ball is not secured and goes off Heekeren and rebounds forward in front of him, but the Ulm player is waved offside on the run up attempt at goal.

Schalke get a chance at goal in the 13th minute as Sylla takes a shot a goal but his shot is blocked.

Ulm has been pushing hard to find a goal, they have been outplayed Schalke and have 2 shots on target to Schalke's zero shots on goal.

In the 40th minute it is Ulm that finally break through. Felix Higl takes a shot on goal and it is another wobble from Heekeren, the Schalke keeper looks to be in position but the ball goes through his hands on a low rolling shot and Ulm take the lead with a few minutes to go before half.

That should have been a routine save by Heekeren, unfortunately Heekeren has looked shakey all match not sure if it is rust on his part on nerves, but it's the worst he has looked all season.


HALF TIME:


SCHALKE 0 - ULM 1


The second half begins and Schalke are trying to get into the match and are now pressing high.

In the 60th minute Schalke find the equalizer, it is Paul Seguin who is able to skillfully put a perfect shot into the right corner from a great passing in the box from Younes to Karaman then to the goal scorer Seguin.


SCHALKE 1 - ULM 1


Schalke now on the front foot with another chance in the 62nd minute as Younes plays a ball through to Karaman who does receive the pass and puts some power on his shot and it hits the keepers hand but has enough power on the shot that it rolls pass the goal line and the host think they got the lead but the play is called for offside.

Since the break Schalke have come out with purpose and have been way more aggressive on the ball in winning the ball back and fighting for loose balls.


It is a yellow card for Schalke right back Gantenbein

Now thirteen minutes later it is Gantenbein who receives his second yellow card and now sees the red card on a late tackle which also sparks the sidelines as after the red card both coaches are now shown a yellow card as well.

Schalke are now down to 10- men at the 86th minute.

Schalke win the corner in the 89th minute, as Seguin delivers the corner kick the ball finds Schalke defender Kaminski who is back from his yellow card accumulation suspension and it is Kaminski who is able to direct the ball into the back of the net with a brilliant header for his first goal of the season, as the Schalke players all go running to celebrate with Kaminski.


SCHALKE 2- ULM 1


Ulm are pushing Schalke in the final five minutes of added time, but all they can do is deliver crosses i to the box that are cleared away.


FULL TIME

SCHALKE 2 - ULM 1


Schalke complete the comeback after being a goal down and then find the winner after being a man down.

Schalke move back into the 11th spot in the table.

As for Ulm, a great effort as they did control the first half but could not get more than the one goal.

But with the Braunschweig win on Friday night Ulm knew they had to win to keep one point behind them for that final playoff spot, now with the loss Ulm are now 4 points behind Braunschweig and Ulm are in the automatic relegation zone.

The next Schalke match is another Sunday encounter this time against Regensburg
