MATCHDAY 6: SCHALKE v. DARMSTADT

Schalke are back at home to face a struggling Darmstadt side who are bottom of the table.

Schalke themselves who are winless in their last 4 league matches.


Darmstadt get the match going, but it will be Schalke that answer the call first.


At the 13th minute mark, Vukotic will take down Schallenberg at the edge of the box, awarding Schalke with the freekick.

Tobias Mohr steps up to take it and he gives it a panenka style hit as the ball slowly goes over the wall and drops in the back of the net, The Darmstadt keeper Schuhen does not even move for it.


Schalke 1 - Darmstadt 0


Darmstadt continues to look lost on defense as Moussa Sylla gets his 4th goal of the season at the 34th minute mark, Karaman sets up the play carring the ball in, he then passes off to Antwi- Adjei and he carries the ball into the box and dishes it to Sylla and his shot goes off the post back out then off the keeper and on his third chance he puts it back of the net, a crazy pinball goal.

Schalke 2 - Darmstadt 0


There is a brief power outage at the VELTINS-Arena in the 39th minute but it does not stop Schalke, as Ron Schallenberg makes it 3 for Schalke but we did not see it.


From accounts in the stadium it is another free kick that is delivered into the box and Schallenberg gets to it and touches it to pass the keeper on his far side.

At the 45th + 4 minute mark, The referee goes to VAR and awards Darmstadt a penalty on a handball in the box on a earlier play.

Fraser Hornby steps up and he converts the penalty to get Darmstadt on the board as both teams head into the half.

HALFTIME


Darmstadt come out of the break with alot more courage and energy, and they are awarded in the 56th minute.

Again the power flickers in the Arena and knocks out the TV signal and again another goal happens at this time, as Isac Lidberg scores from a Heekeren saved rebound to make it 3-2.


Schalke 3 - Darmstadt 2


At the 76th minute Darmstadt come all the way back as defender Kaminski trips and falls down missing the ball completely which allows Lidberg to fly past him with a clear path towards goal, and he blasts his shot top corner to tie the match.

Darmstadt now in full control of the match, and it will be Lidberg again from the corner kick at the 87th minute, he gets the ball, spins and shoots it past Heekeren, Isac Lidberg with a brace, and Darmstadt take the lead in this match. As Lidberg gets the hat trick in the 2nd half.

The final nail in the coffin to Schalke comes at the 97th minute and Schalke have all given up as Lakenmacher and Sergio Lopez combine for the 5th Darmstadt goal scored by Lopez.

The final whistle blows and Schalke blow a 3 - 0 goal lead and leave the pitch to a loud booing from the home fans, and deservedly so.
