MATCHDAY 4: Schalke vs. Köln.

Schalke are back home at the VELTINS-Arena after three consecutive matches on the road.


The match kicks off and there was chances being created at both ends,

Schalke on a few occasions look to have issues on the defensive end.


Köln had a great opportunity to open the scoring with a free header in the box, at the 22nd min mark, Linton crosses the ball into the box and Eric unmarked, heads the ball from about 6 meters right into the hands of Heekeren.

A few minutes later Köln opened the scoring at the 26th minute.

A team goal, as Heintz wins the ball from the Heekeren long ball delivery, Huseinbasic passes to Ljubicic who immediately passes to Downs who puts a great shot past Heekeren who does not even move as the ball is in the back of the net that fast.

Schalke 0 - Köln 1.


Just before Halftime, at the 45th minute, on another counter from Köln this time the goal scorer Downs sets up Linton Mania who gets into the box and beats Heekeren opening up a empty net for himself and puts the ball across the line and passed Cisse who tries to stop the shot on the goal line.

Schalke 0 - Köln 2.

HALFTIME.


Right at the kick off, Köln again expose Schalke and the ball is moved to Pacarada who fires the ball across the face of goal and Tim Lemperle slots the ball into the back of the net with ease.

46th min and Köln are up by 3.

Schalke 0 - Köln 3.

There is a VAR check for offside, but the goal will stand.


Schalke will get a lifeline into the match at the 65th minute, Amin Younes brings the ball into the box and is tripped up by a Köln player and Schalke are awarded a penalty.

Karaman will step to the spot and take the penalty, Karaman shoots high and to the left as keeper Urbig dives to the right.

Schalke 1 - Köln 3.


Schalke look alive again at the 75th minute when Tobias Mohr looks to get Schalke a 2nd goal, but after a VAR review the goal is disallowed.


The whistle blows for full time and Köln move their unbeaten run against Schalke to now 11 straight matches.

Schalke continues to slide down the table and lose two places and now are in 12th spot with 4 pts. As now Köln move up to 6th with 7 pts.


At the end of Matchday 4, Dusseldorf and Karlsruher stand at the top of the table with 10 points.
