Manchester City were stunned by two goals in quick succession by Manchester United, slumping to a ninth loss in their last 12 games.
City went in front in the first half, with Gvardiol's header from a short corner meaning that United have conceded 4 goals from set pieces since Amorim took over.
Amad was the catalyst for United's turnaround, drawing a foul from Matheus Nunes in the box, after intercepting his weak pass back to Ederson. Bruno Fernandes stepped up and confidently put the ball away to level the game. Amad then expertly finished the second goal, latching onto a lovely pass from Lisandro Martinez, lobbing Ederson with his first touch and then slotting the ball in from a tight angle with his second.
Amad provides the inspiration
Up until the 87th minute, it seemed all but certain that United would slump to a third defeat in a row in the league, with their lack of creativity in the final third coming to the fore once more. However, Amad Diallo - United's brightest spark throughout the game - had different plans. His constant energy and positive runs eventually bore fruit when he intercepted Matheus Nunes' pass for the penalty - and he topped off his performance with his excellently taken goal. Amad has, without question, been the biggest beneficiary of Amorim's arrival. Having been on the fringes of the squad under Erik Ten Hag, the former Sporting coach put his trust in him, and Amad has certainly repaid that trust so far. He could become one of the best forwards in the league at this rate.
More injury woes for Mason Mount
On the other end of the spectrum, it looks like another horrible day for Mason Mount, who went off injured early in the first half. The former Chelsea man cannot catch a break with his injuries. Amorim has remained coy on the situation but it looks like another extended period on the sidelines
Set piece problems... again
United will be increasingly concerned by the number of goals they have conceded from set pieces in recent weeks, with 4 conceded already under Amorim. Gvardiol jumped highest from De Bruyne's deflected cross, and questions will be asked of United's defence as to why they seem to concede so many good chances from these situations.
