I watched with pride and fascination Slot's first interview at Liverpool. Impressive! In keeping with this time, Brian Priske is also introduced to us in a somewhat similar way. And that won't let me go.
Slot's arrival was quite controversial at the time, with AZ not winning the beauty prize. However, that gave Slot and Arnesen more than enough time to prepare for not only his arrival, but for a complete cultural change within 1908 and the stadium.
Slot came, saw and won. I won't spend many words on this, the man is a phenomenon and belongs to the three best coaches in Feyenoord's history in my eyes. He leaves the club behind in a great way, there is a solid foundation for building on this success.
Behind the scenes, the building blocks were laid for a modern top club, with an excellent staff finally making use of the facilities. Under Advocaat, dated and bad football was still being shown at that time. So there was room for improvement.
But football is opportunistic. What was built yesterday can be broken down tomorrow. That makes the choice for Priske so interesting now. The choice is broadly supported, very well thought out and made on the basis of the current core values of success. And that is new in Zuid.
In one of the reaction videos to Slot's first LFC interview, it was about Klopp's entry point back then and Slot's entry point now. You can also draw that parallel to the moment Priske is now taking over and how Feyenoord is structured as a top club across the board.
From Priske's introduction you can tell that he is just as obsessed with football as Arne. He is a little less charming, but very intelligent and just as eloquent. The way he talks about the collaboration with Te Kloese gives me a lot of confidence, as do his assistants.
Slot's era, even if it was only 3 years, I will never forget and I will continue to follow him. But that the club builds on something, has a football vision and propagates it. I have never experienced that in the last 20 years that I have followed Feyenoord closely.
So apart from all the outgoing and incoming transfers I am very enthusiastic about the coming season of Feyenoord. It will take some getting used to now and then, with new players and trainers. But the intention and the ideas behind the current decisions give confidence in a good season of Feyenoord.
